Following a hugely successful 2009 season in Sydney The Alpine Winter Festival group introduces a new outpost event “The Bondi Bergstation” as a highlight of the Bondi Winter Magic Festival. The Bondi Bergstation will operate July 16 until July 25 and transform Australia’s most iconic beach into a replica European Alpine Village with an outdoor Ice Skating Rink, overlooking the ocean.

What’s a Bergstation?

The German word “Bergstation” refers to the highest spot reachable by snow transports (ski lifts, cable car etc) in alpine ski resorts in Austria, Switzerland and Germany. The Bergstation is typically is set alongside traditional wooden chalet hospitality (ski huts) where visitors can enjoy the perfect vista over the summits from an open terrace and original winter foods. Open fire places, Schapps and Gluehwine complete this unique experience.

SKATING

For ten days at the iconic Bondi Beach, you will be able to don ice skates for a lap under the stars on the  beach-side outdoor ice rink. Sessions are 45 minutes.

Tickets are available as special packages including food and drinks or just the ice rink session and can be bought including or excluding ice skate hire.

In 2009 the entire contingent of tickets sold out within 2 days – to avoid disappointment please book your tickets as early as possible.

The rink is open in the from 10 in the Morning until 10 at Night.

Entry to the event is free of charge for ice skating ticket holders. For security reasons and to contribute to Bondi Surf Life Saving, a nominal fee of $4 (includes a $1 donation to the Bondi Surf Life Saving), is applicable to everyone entering the event site without a ticket. For families (2 adults + children) the entry fee is $10.
